Admiralty

The Firm represents businesses and vessel owners in litigation involving personal injuries and wrongful death that occur in the transportation industry. The Firm's Admiralty attorneys litigate disputes arising under the Jones Act, the Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act (LHWCA), Vessel Limitation of Liability Act, Death on High Seas Act, and other maritime statutes that concern personal injury and death. Attorneys in the Firm provide this representation in state, federal and administrative proceedings, including LHWCA cases before the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Transportation practice also includes the defense of railroads involved in crossing accidents and injuries to railroad employees arising under the Federal Employer's Liability Act (FELA). Whether the injury occurs on open water, shoreside or on a railroad, the Firm has experience in both maritime and land-based transportation litigation.

In business matters, the Firm represents interests involved in shipping at the Ports of Charleston, Georgetown, and Wilmington. The Firm's Admiralty counsel represent clients in matters involving cargo damage, the U.S. Customs Service, vessel charter parties, marine insurance and other disputes regarding the movement of goods. The Firm prosecutes maritime collections for our clients, including vessel arrests, dockage claims, and other collection actions.
