The Firm
represents businesses and vessel owners in litigation involving personal
injuries and wrongful death that occur in the transportation industry.
The Firm's Admiralty attorneys litigate disputes arising under the Jones
Act, the Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act (LHWCA), Vessel
Limitation of Liability Act, Death on High Seas Act, and other maritime
statutes that concern personal injury and death. Attorneys in the Firm
provide this representation in state, federal and administrative
proceedings, including LHWCA cases before the U.S. Department of Labor.
The Transportation practice also includes the defense of railroads
involved in crossing accidents and injuries to railroad employees
arising under the Federal Employer's Liability Act (FELA). Whether the
injury occurs on open water, shoreside or on a railroad, the Firm has
experience in both maritime and land-based transportation litigation.
In business matters, the Firm represents interests involved in shipping
at the Ports of Charleston, Georgetown, and Wilmington. The Firm's
Admiralty counsel represent clients in matters involving cargo damage,
the U.S. Customs Service, vessel charter parties, marine insurance and
other disputes regarding the movement of goods. The Firm prosecutes
maritime collections for our clients, including vessel arrests, dockage
claims, and other collection actions.
